Are you a student interested in becoming a Certified Personal Trainer? This course may be for you! We are pleased to announce that Butler Personal Training will be offering an In-House Certification course this spring (2024). If you are interested, please fill out this form. Please contact dscripter@muurausahvenlampi.com if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. For more information, continue reading.
General Course Information: This 12-week course (PT) will consist of both a lab and lecture portion to ensure that you are prepared and well-equipped to achieve your goals and pursue your interests. You will be working alongside other students and HRC-employed personal trainers. Technique and skill will be taught directly from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) material, by qualified employees at the HRC.
Location: HRC Conference Room 154 (by the ping pong table if entering through the doors closest to Hinkle Fieldhouse)
Expectations: You will get out of the course what you put into the course; however, taking the course does not ensure a certification. You must pass the written exam administered at the end of the 12-week period. You must also complete a “mock training” session with one of the instructors. It is crucial that you demonstrate proper rapport, technique, communication skills, and ability to ensure you are well-equipped and prepared for the job. Students that commit to at least one year of training at the HRC will receive a discount on the certification exam.
Estimated Price: We are able to offer you a deal on getting certified! The course is estimated to cost around $600 total. A typical national certification costs anywhere from $800-$1400, so take advantage of the opportunity and get a kick start on your career or side hustle. We are here to help you, please reach out to dscripter@muurausahvenlampi.com with any cost concerns.
Required Material for PT: American Council on Exercise: The Exercise Professional’s Guide to Personal Training 6th Ed. ($99.95) AND Certification Exam ($399)
Recommended Material: ACE Personal Training Study Program for Students (offers textbook, study companion, online study materials, and practice exam): $199.95 + $399.00 Certification Exam (recommended)
Or
ACE Personal Training Book 6th ed. $99.95 + $399.00 Certification Exam
The book(s) are required for our course. The course itself does not have a cost attached to it. The books and final examination are what make up the price you will pay. These payments are directly through the ACE website, not the HRC.
Estimated Time Commitment: To ensure proper training, practice, and skills, the course will occur two times per week on average over the course of 12 weeks. Your total lab and lecture time commitment will not exceed five hours per week.

How long is a personal training session?
Traditional training sessions are 60 minutes long and typically include a warm-up and cool-down period.
Is there an age requirement?
Prospective clients must be at least 16 years old in order to be eligible for personal training services.
Can I choose my personal trainer?
Clients may request a specific trainer in the training registration form located within the Health History document download. There is no guarantee that they will be matched with their requested trainer, but efforts will be taken to do so.
How should I prepare for my personal training session?
It is recommended to bring a water bottle and to wear clothes that are loose and comfortable. Some materials, such as synthetic fabrics have wicking properties that can help sweat evaporate quickly and keep your body cool. Proper footwear allows you to move properly, and can help prevent injuries. It is best to choose a stable sneaker that will help you get the most out of your workout.
Daily lockers can be used to store personal items during personal training sessions. These lockers are located near the front desk just through the gates. Longer term lockers can be rented for a small fee.
Do I have to be a member of the HRC to use personal training services?
Non-members do not need a membership to use the personal training services. Please refer to “Personal Training Rates” for pricing differences.
